Sunday Dress and Hair

Elle is famous! Check out your Ensign on p. 105 :)  Incidentally, she's under Elder Hales' talk!

And Friday Elle went on the 4th year overnight hike and loved it! They hiked two miles in, made dinner, ate s'mores, played card games and slept under the stars! No tents! She had a blast!  What a trooper.

She's very excited to do it again (only WAY more hardcore) in Washington with her old friends.

A Basketball Bit Mah Finga

Elle has been practicing a cello duet with her friend for like, two months.  They signed up to play at the solo ensemble festival at school.  Their Jr. High teacher is in charge of the whole thing, so that makes it even more fun!

Last night, Elle went to her friend Mitali's house so Mitali's teacher could coach them.  They are sounding so great!

She had a dream that night that she broke her arm and couldn't play in the festival! That would be terrible!

Today, Mitali (and another friend) walked home from school with Elle.  After snack we went to Elle's teacher so he could coach the girls too.  (He was so bummed when the time was up because he said he was having so much fun!)

After the practice, we dropped off Mitali and went home.  As Elle and I were chillaxing on the couch, she said, "So, guess what happened in PE today?"

While Elle was doing an awesome job at defense in their basketball game, the ball landed on her finger and her finger  made a pop! sound.
She was a good girl and went to the nurse and got ice.

She didn't have a chance to tell me about it until we got back from the 45min practice with her teacher and Mitali.  By then her finger was swollen and turning purple.

It was so sad.  We didn't want to go to urgent care because we knew they would at least splint her finger and then she wouldn't be able to play cello in the festival!
We  thought about it, but couldn't justify doing anything but heading over just to make sure it wasn't broken.

It's not. (Thank goodness)

We told the doctor about the festival and she almost cried when she told us Elle couldn't play in it!  She was very nice.

While we were there, I texted Chris that "A basketball bit Elle's finga"
In case you haven't seen the YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPDYj3IMkRI

I told Elle she was prophetic and thankfully it was just a finger sprain and not a broken arm!
(she said she was prophetic because she's narrating the Priest in Romeo and Juliet  at school and he is prophetic! ha ha)

Anyway, when we got home, Elle was lamenting about all the things she can't do. . .
Like help with building cleanup tomorrow ;)
Like playing basketball with her team in PE--there are only three of them so she'll be greatly missed!
Like being able to work on her piece in ceramics.  Chris said, "You can put a plastic bag over your head and then you can do ceramics" Which was totally funny. (he meant to say "hand" of course)
Most of all, she's disappointed that she can't play cello--especially not in the festival tomorrow!

Poor thing.

Sunday Dress and Hair

Last night we had our ward lip sync where the youth made up silly dances and we all got a good laugh.

The Mia Maids did a 1950's theme and Elle wore a poodle skirt and looked very adorable. (I'm still waiting on pictures that the leaders took of the girls)

This year, the bishop's wife decided that the bishopric should do a number too. The bishop agreed as long as the wives were in it too.
Unfortunately, that included the executive secretary!

Our song was "Accentuate the Positive" and we all wore 1940's garb.
Don't you love Chris's tie?! His baggy pants are pulled way up too.

It was totally embarrassing and a little fun.

My How Time Flies!

A long time ago, I had a little white dresser.  I put all my special knick knacks on top and all my little clothes in the drawers.

Fast forward many, many years to when Elle needed a dresser of her own.  Mine was still in good shape so I passed it on to her.
I decided we should really make it hers by painting it pink and adding flowers.  It was a fun project that she and I did together!

Elle didn't have any "work clothes" so I lent her my shorts:

  Isn't she cute?!

Now. . .

Fast forward many many years until Elle is a teenager and isn't really into pink and flowers on her dresser.

It's in OK shape so we want to paint it back to white,  add new knobs, and spruce up the drawers.
I thought it'd be a fun project she and I could do together, so we sanded off the flowers and scuffed up the paint to get it ready to prime.

Elle put on her "work clothes"

Do the shorts look familiar?!
Yes! They are the very ones she wore to put the paint on!
Funny, huh?!

Time will continue to fly for many many years until Elle is 100!

I don't think I'll be around to confirm this picture on the blog though!

My how time flies. . .
*sniff*

Sunday Dress and Hair

It is a beautiful spring day!
The sky is blue and the roses are in bloom!

And Elle looks lovely

Happy. . .

First, Happy (late) birthday, Dad:

Unfortunately, I only took a few pictures at the party my sister and I planned for  my dad and they are not great, so you only get to see the timeline I made that took me forever:

It has a date for everyone who was at the party and says what was happening in the world when my dad was their age.  It was pretty cool to see all the history my dad has lived!

Second, Happy Women's Conference miracle!

My sister-in-law had the crazy scheme to go to the Women's session of conference last minute.  She figured we could go to the standby line and if we got in, great, and if not, we'd go out to dinner.  Success either way!
Well, lucky for us, my mom had two women in the ward give us the exact amount of tickets we needed to get in! Not only did they have tickets, they were pretty much as close as you could get!  Elle said she could see the prophet's face!
It was a miracle! More than we ever hoped for

Third, happy (late) Easter!

We had a big dinner with lots of family on Easter.  The teenagers hid eggs for the little kids. . .

And the kids were so excited to hunt for them!

The teens hid four of the eggs particularly hard so they could each keep one.  Unfortunately for them, Uncle Jason found them and helped the littlest egg hunter get them.

Good news for the teens, though: each hunter shared two eggs with them so they were rewarded after all!

Fourth, happy spring!

Our hummingbird came back a couple weeks ago and built up her nest a little.  She has two little white eggs in there now!  It was so fun watching them last year and so fun again this year!  It is very convenient that she set up her nest right outside our front window to give us easy spying access.
I just hope the neighbors don't think we are spying on them. . .

Fifth, happy visitors!

My brother and his family came all the way from Michigan to visit us! (and go to Disneyland, California Adventure, Six Flags, Dreamworks, and Disney TV)

Chris showed them his game and the youngest gave his stamp of approval!

We went to the beach to catch some waves and sun

And watched bits of conference when the internet was actually working.
We eventually had to watch the rest of Sunday afternoon session at the church just like in the olden days!
The only other people there were the full-time missionaries.
(and one lady from the ward)

And finally, happy new truck!

. . .To someone, I'm sure.  I think this should be Chris's next vehicle--complete with the smoke stacks and the chain across the front grill (not pictured).  He agrees.  We will save up our pennies.

And I can't believe you read this whole thing!
Gold star for YOU!
