Day 5
The Twelve Apostles
GAP# 209 (fishers of men)
Matt 4:18-22, 10:1-42
Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw Peter, and Andrew his brother, fishing. He said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.”He also called James and John. They also immediately left the shi and followed him.
Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphæus, and Lebbæus, whose surname was Thaddæus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
BD “Apostle: The word means “one sent forth.” It was the title Jesus gave to the Twelve whom He chose and ordained to be His closest disciples during His ministry on earth and whom He sent forth to represent Him after His Ascension into heaven. The calling of an Apostle is to be a special witness of the name of Jesus Christ in all the world, particularly of His divinity and of His bodily resurrection from the dead.
