Fiddling Around

My new friend convinced me to join her in playing with the local fiddle club.  Since I haven't played in like, 14 years, I was a bit hesitant, but I went anyway.
They all played crazy fast!
Each week I'd go and try to play at least a few notes per song.  Then, they said we'd be preforming (yikes!)
So I started practicing the list of songs and actually played most of the notes most of the time!
I played at two "gigs"

That's me, front and center in the blue sweater.  My friend is sharing my stand.  The reason we're in front is because we got their last and it was the only place left.

We had quite the captive audience.
(It was close to dinner time, so eventually the place was crowded)

The second gig was for a St. Patrick's Day dance at the local community center. (i.e. mostly old people again)
There was only one couple that actually danced but it was very cute.  She wore a fancy green dress with green lace, and he wore a green"kilt" which was actually one of those bath towels that has elastic at the top so it stays on by itself.
(thankfully it stayed in place for the dance)

We usually practice either at that community center or at a room at the fire station down the street.
There was a scheduling conflict tonight and the firemen felt so bad that they let us practice in a truly unique place:

Not many people can boast to playing IN a fire station!
We were lucky that there were no emergencies :)

Orthodontics Again?!

Yep, once again, Elle has entered the fun stage of orthodontia.  We love our original orthodontist in CA, but 6 month appointments with him are kind of expensive.  So, we found one here.--who we didn't like at all.  Many reasons, really.  The clincher, though, was his insistence on putting  This contraption in Elle's mouth to move her jaw because of her supposedly "huge overbite."    Her CA orthodontist thought the guy here must be crazy.  He opened up his big book of orthodontist, found one in our area that graduated from a top notch school and said we  should see what he had to say.

Coincidentally, this new orthodontist is the same guy my friend's son uses.  She gave him good reviews so we made an appointment for a consultation.

Also coincidentally, he did his undergraduate at BYU.
And another coincident, I saw him at Stake conference last week.
Perhaps not a coincident after all.
(PS my friend isn't LDS)

During the consultation, he kept saying all the same things our CA had said.   It was refreshing to know he was on the same page.  We set up an appointment to get Elle on her way.

Elle still has strange things in her mouth, but the plan is to move her teeth, not her jaw like that creepy thing the other guy suggested.  It's rubber bands and a removable retainer.  She'll go right into braces once her teeth are aligned (in about 2 months)
