My new friend convinced me to join her in playing with the local fiddle club. Since I haven't played in like, 14 years, I was a bit hesitant, but I went anyway.
They all played crazy fast!
Each week I'd go and try to play at least a few notes per song. Then, they said we'd be preforming (yikes!)
So I started practicing the list of songs and actually played most of the notes most of the time!
I played at two "gigs"
That's me, front and center in the blue sweater. My friend is sharing my stand. The reason we're in front is because we got their last and it was the only place left.
We had quite the captive audience.
(It was close to dinner time, so eventually the place was crowded)
The second gig was for a St. Patrick's Day dance at the local community center. (i.e. mostly old people again)
There was only one couple that actually danced but it was very cute. She wore a fancy green dress with green lace, and he wore a green"kilt" which was actually one of those bath towels that has elastic at the top so it stays on by itself.
(thankfully it stayed in place for the dance)
We usually practice either at that community center or at a room at the fire station down the street.
There was a scheduling conflict tonight and the firemen felt so bad that they let us practice in a truly unique place:
Not many people can boast to playing IN a fire station!
We were lucky that there were no emergencies :)
